SuperJumbo A380 CasinoAirbus has revealed that it is talking to several customers who are interested in converting one of its superjumbo A380s (the world's largest passenger plane) into a flying casino. This could be a high octane progression from the offshore gambling boats of Las Vegas or Missisippi´s famous riverboat casinos. "We have had interests from customers who would like to do something like (casinos)," said David Velupillai, marketing director for Airbus."Of course the biggest attraction of the A380 is that it's got 50 percent more floor space than the (Boeing) 747. If you have to do something like that, you have got the floor space that will allow you to do this." A flying superjumbo casino could be launched as early as 2012. He would not disclose who the interested parties were, but there has been speculation that this could be The Virgin Group, given its involvement in the travel and entertainment industry. Virgin already runs an online casino and, of course, the Virgin Atlantic airline. Industry watchdogs are also speculating that some of the big Asian gaming groups may be involved. Gambling revenues from the former Portuguese territory of Macau, now a Special Administrative Region (SAR) of Chine have already sped past the Las Vegas Strip and are set to approach the numbers seen by the greater Las Vegas region, Clark County, this year. Singapore is also due to open its first casino in 2009. Las Vegas Sands, which runs huge casino operations in the US and Macau, is hoping to launch VIP charter flights between Hong Kong and Las Vegas featuring baccarat tables in Lockheed Martin planes. We wager that it´s the bearded one over at Virgin. |
